Our
Story
Impromptu is an award-winning female choir that has been delighting audiences and adjudicators at concerts and competitions for the last 33 years.
Based in Sutton, Surrey, Impromptu now has 25 members drawn from a wide range of ages and occupations. Some of us are site readers, some learn by ear but we all united by our love of singing. There is a great sense of camaraderie within the choir and our continued success is due to the friendships and strong teamwork that has evolved over the years.

In addition to performing in concerts, Impromptu has won many competitions over the years. Our recent achievements include being awarded the Song of the Day at Bournemouth Music Festival in July 2023. We also had multiple class wins in the prestigious Mrs Sunderland Festival in Huddersfield in 2017 a festival we are entering again in 2026
Natalie Vesty, Musical Director
Natalie was born in Leicestershire and spent her early years performing with youth choirs at a national level. She currently leads singing development in young people across the London Borough of Sutton through her work as a vocal specialist at Sutton Music Service.
As a singer, Natalie regularly competes in national competitions with her ladies choir, the Chanterelles.
She is in demand as a vocal leader for adult and children’s choirs and is passionate about the power of music to enrich lives and inspire communities.
Philip Aslangal, Accompanist
Philip Aslangul has been with us for over 20 years.
He is much in demand elsewhere as a repetiteur and accompanist. He is a Jazz and Grades examiner for ABRSM, for whom he is also a Music Medals moderator. He has also worked as a mentor for The Open University.

Frequently asked questions
1 / How much does it cost to Join?
Membership fees are £30 per calendar month
2 / Do I have to audition?
Yes, when you are ready. Potential new members choose a piece from the choir repertoire to audition with. This is an informal audition stood around the piano as part of a quartet
3 / Do you need singing experience?
No experience is required, however members need to be able to hold their part. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn is a must. All our repertoire is performed without music (apart from Christmas Carols)
4 / I feel a bit nervous about just turning up, is there someone I can call before hand?
Absolutely our membership secretary Sue Styles is around to meet and greet you and answer any questions you might have. Plus we are quite a nice bunch and try to meet socially when we can.
